Results for the Bryan Junior High boys and girls cross country teams at the Defiance Early Bird meet last Saturday 8/24/19.

The girls team had a strong performance despite two of our top runners so far being unable to run on Saturday due to injuries. Although teams were not officially scored at this meet, they finished 1st out of 8 teams, with top finishers being Ava Lambert, 7th, 15:08; Caitlyn Dewitt, 9th, 15:21; Kate Thormeier, 11th, 15:26; Alexis Nieves, 12th, 15:28; and Ella Voigt, 17th, 15:55.

The boys team also did well and finished 10th out of 13 teams. Top placers were Gunnur Davis, 28th, 14:05; Xander Fackler, 43rd, 14:35; and Hayden Barrow-Whetro, 53rd, 14:58.

We are unsure about the accuracy of the times reported for these races because upon looking at the course map, it was noted that the 1-mile marker for the junior high course was located in the same place as the 2-mile marker for the high school course, and because the courses for junior high and high school were the same from that point to the finish line, the junior high runners may have actually run 2.1 miles total because they would have run the remaining 1.1 miles that the high school athletes did. Therefore, we think the times recorded for junior high could be up to 45 seconds slower than their actual 2 mile times.

It was a great start to the season for the teams and we are looking forward to the rest of the upcoming races this season.
