2017-18 Wrestling

Bryan started sectional competition tonight in Napoleon. Results are below. Many of the wrestlers are seeing the tournament season for the first time. Our lone wrestler left to compete on day 2 is 182 pounder Dylan Mccandless. Dylan will await the results of the semifinal match tomorrow morning before seeing who he will face tomorrow.

Dylan McCandless placed 5th and will be preparing next week for districts at Norwalk as an alternate. He lost a close match to the #1 seed Tyler Miller from Sandusky St. Mary's Memorial 12-10 before pinning Trevor Sprigdeon of Van Wert in 2:11 to place 5th. The ceiling for Dylan is very high as he supports a 24-18 record as a freshman and leads the team in every statistical category.

The Bryan wrestling team completed its regular season at Swanton in the league tournament. We had 3 placers this weekend. Freshman Dylan McCandless at 182 lbs placed 4th. Dylan has been wrestling a lot better towards the end of the season and we're excited to watch him develop into the future. Junior Eion Moor finished 5th. Eion had two tough matches early on but, was able to close out the tournament with a win. Freshman Logan Heller finished 6th for us.  We'll look to build upon this next week as we go to Napoleon to compete at sectionals.

Bryan wrapped up its regular season schedule with Wauseon and Swanton tonight. Swanton is very senior heavy and athletic. That group has been together for a long time. They're a very good team. Wauseon is one of the top programs in the state this year as well. Every one knows what they bring to the table. We knew heading in that it was going to be tough sledding. Our focus was to not let the level of competition change our mentality on the mats and while the wins weren't there, the fight was. That's something we've really been working on over the last few weeks. As long as our kids keep putting in the work, things will start to turn around. We have two weeks off before leagues. We'll use that time to heal up and work on correcting the little mistakes that are holding us back.

Bryan wrestled in Fairview Tuesday evening splitting with a loss against Fairview and a win against Edgerton. The kids are struggling to find consistency. At times the kids look really good and other times they struggle which was the case tonight. We didn't show any fight against Fairview but, rebounded really well as a team against Edgerton. We travel to Swanton to finish out our regular season against Swanton and Wauseon Thursday.

Bryan competed in the Elmwood Duals this weekend. We only traveled with 6 wrestlers due to illness. It's tough to win a dual missing more than half of a lineup. The kids were up and down throughout the day. Each of them did some things that we liked and gave some things we didn't to improve on.

Bryan wrestled the first round of the OHSAA State Dual Tournament against Defiance. We're down several wrestlers for various reasons but, the kids that wrestled tonight fought in every match. We've worked hard the last few weeks on cleaning some things up and fighting for every point even in our losses. I'm not satisfied with the end results but, I'm happy with how our kids wrestled. Saturday we travel to Elmwood for a dual tournament.

Bryan fell 42-30.
Winning matches for the Bears were Dylan McCandless and Eion Morr.

Bryan hosted a quad match with Delta, Patrick Henry, and Liberty Center. We struggled with numbers due to illness tonight. Our goal going in was to just wrestle the person in front of us and see how things came out. We have two weeks off to focus on the things we need to change and we'll go from there.

Winning matches for the Bears was Logan Heller, Carter Hoffman and Dylan McCandless with two wins.

Eion Moor, Dylan McCandless and Keenin Tidball all wrestled on day 2 at Perrysburg. Eion Moor won his first match putting him in position to place. He finished 8th at 195.

Bryan continued league action this evening at Archbold against Patrick Henry and Montpelier. We knew what we had to do tonight and the kids stepped up in a big way defeating both teams. Our goal is to turn the program in the right direction and everyone is buying in. We believe in what we're doing in the room and continue to make adjustments through the season. I couldn't be more proud of this group of young wrestlers. We continue tomorrow and Saturday at the Perrysburg Invitational.

Bryan wrestled at the Tri-State Boarder War in Defiance Friday and Saturday. The wrestlers are continuing to improve each time we step on the mats with several wrestlers picking up wins this weekend. Dylan McCandless made a run into Saturday morning but, fell one match short of placing in the 44 team tournament.  Next week will be full of wrestling with two league matches in Thursday in Archbold and then off to Perrysburg to compete in the Perrysburg Invitational Tournament Friday and Saturday.

Bears Open League Competition

Bryan opened league competition tonight at Evergreen. The wrestlers came out wrestling flat against Archbold to open things up winning just one match. Payne Frank started us off well against Evergreen with a pin. That turned out to be the deciding match for us as we were able to pull out a win due to forfeits in the end. We'll work on fundamentals before returning to action next Friday at the Tri-State Boarder War in Defiance.

The Bryan varsity wrestlers competed at the Edgerton Invitational Saturday and finished in 6th place after going 2-3 as a team. The kids battled hard and showed improvement even in their losses. This is a great sign and something to be proud of for such a young group. The coaching staff is very pleased with the performance this weekend. Eion Moor was the team stand out going 5-0 on the day, Carter Hoffman also looked good at 4-1 in his first action this season. Bryan will open league competition on Thursday, December 21st in Evergreen.

The Bears Traveled to Tinora for their Dual Tournament

Archbold defeated Bryan 57-12.
Getting wins for Bryan were Logan Heller and Keenin Tidball.

Tinora over Bryan 72-6
Winning for the Bears was Dylan McCandless.

Edgerton took one from the Bears 51-18
Winning were Jared Ramey, Alex Bruce, and Kennin Tidball.

Paulding and Bryan both scored 30 team points.
Winning for the Bears - Alex Bruce, Logan Heller, Dylan McCandless, Payne Frank and Kennin Tidball.
